Fiver & Five USA change channel numbers

Fiver and Five USA have changed channel numbers on Freeview. Fiver has moved from channel 36 to channel 30, and Five USA has moved from channel 35 to channel 31.

Quest launch postponed

In a surprise decision, Discovery had to postpone the launch of their new channel Quest, which was due to launch on Freeview today.

A message was posted up on the official Quest website at 10am this morning says “Regrettably we have made the decision to postpone the launch of Quest. Due to a number of commercial factors we have had to make this difficult decision. We did not make this decision lightly and we are working towards launching Quest in the near future. We would like to apologise wholeheartedly to any of you that have been looking forward to this launch”.

Film4 extended hours from 23rd May

It was initially announced quite a long time ago, but Film4 have finally now confirmed the date they are extending their broadcast hours. From Saturday 23rd May, Film4 will start at 11am (instead of the current 1pm start time). This change affects all platforms – Freeview, Virgin Media and Sky.

More Virgin HD channels coming Q3 2009

Virgin Media have confirmed they are definitely adding some more high definition channels to the channel lineup for V+ customers this year. Dows Jones Newswires (as reported on the Wall Street Journal website) says Virgin “plans to launch as many as six new high-definition channels in the third quarter of 2009″. Neil Berkett (Virgin Media Chief Executive) confirms “we’ll be launching as many as six high-definition channels in the third quarter”. This is excellent news for Virgin Media customers as the only linear HD channel currently available is BBC HD. HD content is also available on demand.

UKTV Style rebrands as Home

UKTV Style has rebranded as Home. The channel rebranded yesterday – 30th April. Home is available on Top Up TV channel 26 and Virgin Media channel 265 (also, a +1 timeshift channel is available on Virgin Media channel 266).

The remaining UKTV-prefixed channels will rebrand shortly – UKTV Gardens will rebrand as Really on the 19th May and UKTV Food to rebrand soon.

HD Catch Up now available

HD Catch Up is now available in the Catch Up TV On Demand section of Virgin TV. HD Catch Up has programming from the BBC HD channel. Also, for the first time, subtitles are now available on the BBC HD channel. A V+ subscription is required to watch the BBC HD channel and any HD content in On Demand.
