Sony Movie Channel launching this spring

A new film channel from Sony will be launching on Sky this spring.

The new Sony Movie Channel from Sony Pictures Television will be part of Sky’s basic package and will air films from Sony’s extensive back catalogue.

A +1 timeshift version of the channel will also launch.

In the US the Sony Movie Channel has been available since 2010.

Animal Planet HD has launched

Animal Planet HD is now available on Sky.

The HD version of Animal Planet replaces its SD counterpart on channel 525 for HD customers with the SD channel moving to 561. If you’re not an HD customer then the SD channel remains on 525 with the HD channel on 561.

Sky Living Loves ceases broadcasting

Various changes took place on the Sky platform today. Of these the only one to affect Virgin Media customers is the removal of Sky Living Loves which has been closed down by Sky on all platforms.

Sky Living Loves was previously available on Virgin Media channel 159.

Changes to Sky channels today

Several changes have taken effect for various Sky channels today:

- Sky 2 has moved to channel 121
- Sky Living +1 has moved to channel 123
- Sky Livingit +1 has moved to channel 238
- Sky Living Loves has closed down

Specifically, if you’re an HD customer:

- Sky Arts 1 HD has moved to channel 129
- Sky Arts 2 HD has moved to channel 130

If you’re not an HD customer:

- Sky Arts 1 has moved to channel 129
- Sky Arts 2 has moved to channel 130
- Sky Arts 1 HD has moved on channel 239
- Sky Arts 2 HD has moved on channel 290

Current TV to close in March

Current TV will cease broadcasting on the 11th March.

Current TV MD Jane Mote told C21 Media “a rescue plan has failed and the channel will now close”.

Al Gore’s news & documentary channel was axed from Sky’s pay TV lineup in January and has remained on-air as a free-to-air channel ever since.

Diva TV ceases broadcasting

Diva TV has ceased broadcasting today.

The channel was available on Sky channel 269 and Virgin Media channel 164.

MTV HD and MTV Live launching soon

MTV’s general entertainment channel will become available in HD from next week.

MTV HD will be a simulcast of the standard definition version of MTV. HD viewers will see the channel replace the current MTV on Sky channel 126 from the 13th February.

Also, MTVN HD will rebrand as MTV Live HD on Sky channel 358 from the 23rd April.

In addition to the rebranding to MTV Live HD, a standard definition version of the channel will launch on the same date, which means non-HD viewers will also be able to watch programmes such as MTV World Stage and MTV Unplugged on the channel.
