Sky Sports News will undergo a rebrand on the 12th August to become Sky Sports News HQ it has been announced.
“Launched for the new football season, Sky Sports News HQ will put the viewer at the heart of sports news with a new schedule, upgraded studio and improved digital services including redesigned apps and integrated social media coverage.
Sky Sports News HQ will launch on Sky channel 401, providing viewers with an unrivalled sports news service plus a showcase of other content on the Sky Sports channels. Other Sky Sports channels will move one slot up the Sky digital EPG”.
In addition to the new channel name and number, Sky Sports News HQ will have a new schedule, new studio and other improvements.
The new channel numbers on Sky will be:

Sky Sports 3 – 404
Sky Sports 4 – 405

Sky Sports F1 – 407
A brand new Sky Sports channel will launch on the 12th August. Sky Sports 5 is dubbed as “your new home of European football”.
“Sky Sports 5 launches August 12 and will screen over 600 live European football matches next season featuring some of the best players, the best teams and the best competitions. Sky Sports 5 will be the seventh channel from Sky Sports and will be the home of European Qualifiers, UEFA Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey for Sky Sports viewers, plus a host of other European football programming including Revista De La Liga and Champions League Weekly”
As a promotion to mark the launch of Sky Sports 5, Sky are giving customers free Sky Broadband Unlimited for two years when they register & activate the new channel.
A placeholder for Sky Sports 5 can currently be found on Sky channel 407.
Sky Sports 1 and 2 have ceased broadcasting on Top Up TV.
ESPN will also stop broadcasting on the service at the end of July.
It was hoped a deal could be reached with BT to carry their new BT Sport channels but this didn’t happen.
Top Up TV state on their website they “have negotiated some exceptional deals with Sky on your behalf” and that customers should contact Sky to find out more about those deals.
Sky Sports 1 will be broadcast on Pick TV this August for one day only it has been announced. This will be the first time Sky Sports has been on Freeview.
Pick TV will transform into Sky Sports 1 on Saturday 17th August and will show a Premier League match for free.
It’s likely this will only be the case for Freeview and not Sky or Virgin Media viewers. However Sky and Virgin Media customers who don’t subscribe to Sky Sports will instead have the option of seeing the Sky Sports 1 content on Sky 2.
In related news, Sky Sports will no longer be available on BT Vision from August as that space will be used for the new BT Sport channels.
Sky Sports 2 HD will become Sky Sports Ashes HD between the 30th June and the 31st August.
Sky Sports Ashes HD will show dedicated cricket coverage of this year’s Ashes as well as other cricket events.
All six Sky Sports channels are now available as a pay-as-you option for the first time.
There is no long-term subscription with the new service from Sky called Now TV.
Now TV has just started offering all six Sky Sports channels for £9.99 a day – they call it the Sky Sports Day Pass.
Now TV streams these channels – along with others – on your laptop, PC, tablet or mobile device.

Sky Sports HD 1-4 have been renamed as Sky Sports 1-4 HD this week, and Sky Sports F1 has been added to the EPG on channel 408.
The version of the channel you see on 408 depends on your subscription – if you’d an HD customer it’s Sky Sports F1 HD on channel 408 with the SD version on channel 459, and if you’d not an HD customer then you get the SD version on channel 408 instead.
Sky Sports F1 is currently showing a placeholder video until the channel launches later this month.
If you’re a Virgin Media customer you will find Sky Sports F1 on channel 516.
Sky are launching a brand new channel to show their Formula 1 coverage on next year.
Sky Sports F1 HD will launch in March and will air all races live, live practice & qualifying for every race and extra live content. The channel will also be available on Sky Go via a laptop or mobile device.
The channel will be available at no extra cost for people already subscribing to Sky Sports packages 1 & 2 or the HD pack of channels. Sky Sports customers without the HD pack will receive the standard definition version of the channel.
The new channel has only be confirmed for launch on Sky at the moment.

Sky Sports will be free to all Virgin Media TV customers for one weekend this month.
From 6am on the 24th September through to 6th on the 26th September Sky Sports 1-4, Sky Sports News and Sky Sports HD 1 & 2 (only for customers with an HD box) will be free to all TV customers.

Sky Sports red button services launched on Virgin Media earlier this month.
The new red button options are available at various times – i.e. when there are additional football matches to show that aren’t on the standard Sky Sports channels.
Tivo customers won’t have the Sky Sports red button services for a while.
