Movies 24 becomes Christmas 24

Movies 24Movies 24 will rebrand as Christmas 24 for the festive period as it does every year.

The channel name will change from the 2nd November. They will then show Christmas movies until the end of the year.

The channel will rebrand back to Movies 24 in the new year.

Christmas/Movies 24 is available on Sky channel 327 and Virgin Media channel 419.

The “+” version is on Sky channel 328 and Virgin Media channel 420.

Lifetime to launch 4th November

LifetimeNew A+E Networks channel Lifetime is scheduled to launch on the 4th November.

The channel – a joint venture between A+E Networks and BSkyB – will follow in a similar vein to its US counterpart and air entertainment & lifestyle shows, including original dramas & movies.

Lifetime will launch on Sky channel 156 (the same channel number Bio currently occupies) and Virgin Media channel 242.

Its +1 timeshift channel will also be available on Sky channel 197.

NOW Music launches on Sky

NOW MusicNOW Music has launched on Sky channel 378.

The music video channel takes its name and brand from the popular compilation album series Now That’s What I Call Music.

Also, from the 22nd November, NOW Music will temporarily change its name to NOW Christmas playing seasonal music.

On the 27th December it will then revert back to its normal NOW Music name.

CBBC HD and BBC Three HD placeholders appear

Placeholders for CBBC HD and BBC Three HD have appeared on Freeview HD.

CBBC HD will be on channel 73 and BBC Three HD will be on channel 105.

You may need to rescan your Freeview box to pick up these placeholder channels.

The channel numbers may well change when the channels launch.

Both of the new HD channels will share bandwidth when they launch as CBBC airs until 7pm when BBC Three then comes onto the air (the same way their SD channels work now).

It’s not known when the channels will launch but it’s thought to be by the end of the year, or early 2014 at the latest.

The message on-screen on both placeholders reads “Coming soon, new HD channels from the BBC”.

BBC Four HD, CBeebies HD and BBC News HD are also due to launch next year.


BBC planning to launch BBC One +1

BBC OneThe BBC are planning to launch a timeshift version of BBC One according to Director General Tony Hall.

He said the new channel, airing programmes 1 hour later than BBC One, will offer people “more of what they’ve already paid for… BBC One needs to be on top form. It has to be the nation’s favourite channel, and also its bravest”.

This plan along with new features for iPlayer amongst other things will be run past the BBC Trust for approval.

ITV’s shopping channel The Store launched

ITV’s new 24-hour shopping channel (in partnership with JML Direct) has launched.

The Store – based on the name of ITV’s late night shopping strand – is available on Sky channel 642.

The new channel is also available part-time on Freeview channel 39 between 6pm and 1am.
