Sky Sports 1 will be broadcast on Pick TV this August for one day only it has been announced. This will be the first time Sky Sports has been on Freeview.
Pick TV will transform into Sky Sports 1 on Saturday 17th August and will show a Premier League match for free.
It’s likely this will only be the case for Freeview and not Sky or Virgin Media viewers. However Sky and Virgin Media customers who don’t subscribe to Sky Sports will instead have the option of seeing the Sky Sports 1 content on Sky 2.
In related news, Sky Sports will no longer be available on BT Vision from August as that space will be used for the new BT Sport channels.
Pick TV will start airing a new weekly programming block every Thursday for 12 weeks from next week.
Sky Thursdays launches on Pick TV on the 24th January acting as a showcase for Sky’s premium channels, similar to how they have done previously with their one-of Sky Weekend Pass weekends but in a regular slot each week instead.
The move is presumably a way for Sky to advertise their programmes to non-subscribers in a bid to drive up Sky subscriber numbers.
Programmes airing for free for the first time include Bradley Wiggins: A Year In Yellow, Elementary, Game Of Thrones, Modern Family, Treasure Island, Blue Bloods, Smash, Boardwalk Empire, Mad Dogs and An Idiot Abroad Series 2.

Sky3 has rebranded as Pick TV today as expected.
Pick TV is available on Freeview channel 11 (with Pick TV +1 on channel 44), Sky channel 152 (with Pick TV +1 on channel 153) and Virgin Media channel 180.
Despite the name change, the channel will continue with the same Sky3 schedule.
Sky3 and Sky3 +1 will rebrand as Pick TV and Pick TV +1 on the 28th February.
Programming is likely to remain the same as Sky3’s current lineup.
