4seven to launch 4th July on all platforms

4sevenIt’s been announced Channel 4’s new catchup channel 4seven will launch on the 4th July (a clever marketing ploy with the launch date – 04/07/2012).

4seven will showcase repeats of popular Channel 4 shows from the past seven days and is described as a social-driven channel with the hope those repeats will fuel further discussion about programmes on social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

The channel will be available on Freeview (channel 47 in post-switchover areas – another clever marketing ploy with the channel number), Sky (likely replacing More4 +2 on channel 269), Virgin Media (channel number not confirmed) and Freesat (channel number not confirmed).

‘Project Shuffle’ channel named as 4seven

4sevenThe new catchup channel being launched by Channel 4 as part of ‘Project Shuffle’ will be called 4seven. Channel 4 Chief Executive David Abraham announced the channel name at the FT Digital Media Conference. This will be the first new channel to be launched by Channel 4 since 2005.

An official press release on the Channel 4 website says “launching across all major TV platforms later this year, the channel will give viewers another chance to catch up with the most popular and talked about Channel 4 content from the last 7 days with the ease of a remote control rather than going online”.

David Abraham goes on to say “with so much choice out there, viewers are increasingly saying they sometimes just miss the best stuff, despite their PVR and VOD. 4seven will give viewers more chances to catch the most popular and talked about Channel 4 shows from the last seven days”.
